How to Distribute Your Music with Family in Music

Get your music on Spotify, Apple Music, and more—this guide walks you through the full process.

Updated this week

To get started, log in to Family in Music account and navigate to Tools > Distribution.

Once you're on your distribution page, if it's your first time using our distribution services, you'll be asked to read and accept our Distribution Agreement. After accepting it, click on “Create new release” to begin. You'll be guided through a progress bar with the five steps required to complete your release.

🎯 Note: Make sure your metadata is accurate—metadata powers discovery, correct artist mapping, and royalty payments. For a full breakdown of each field and best practices, check this detailed guide →

1. Add Tracks to the Release

Upload a new audio file or select from your existing catalogue. Basic metadata (like track title, duration, and other specs) is automatically pulled from the file.

2. Add Track Details

Enter key information such as:

  • Track title

  • Artists and contributors

  • Origin and track properties

  • Publishing and rights details

3. Add Release Details

Upload your cover art and fill in:

  • Release title

  • Main and featuring artists

  • Genres, UPC, and other required fields

4. Distribution Settings

Choose:

  • The platforms and stores you want to deliver to

  • Global or regional availability

  • Release time: as soon as possible or on a specific date

  • Pre-order start date (if applicable)

5. Final Review & Submit

Check that everything looks correct before submitting.

🧠 Why it matters: Inaccurate metadata can delay your release or result in lost revenue. Metadata = money.

After submission, our team will review and deliver your release—usually within 1 business day.
